Helpful Hints for LI's During one of the AFIS Internet breakout discussions, one of the delegates mentioned that if his people get a `No P' on an LI, and there are sufficient points in the relatively clear areas of the print, they `Zone out' the points in the delta area and are sometimes rewarded with a hit. This confirms my long held suspicions that saturation can occur after the database grows too large. Points in the delta and core are so universally common, and placement of ridge endings so arbitrary, that the plotter (with its sweep) and the matcher are unable to sort out the best probability, especially if you have guessed at some points, or the database print is smudged. No other AFIS system comes close to the number of prints contained in the CA--DOJ database. Those of you with your own FUAA are fortunate in this respect. If you go FUAA to FUAA (with DOJ), you might want to modify your M.O. with this saturation problem in mind.
