Helpful Hint for LI's

Any latent which requires tracing also requires decisions and some educated guesswork as to the placement of ridge endings and bifurcations.  In most instances these guesses are not critical.  The 17o sweep will soften not only a misplaced axis but will include minutia which is close to its appointed position.  However, you could be shooting yourself in the foot if you guess wrong in the core area or within a few ridges of the core.  The 17o sweep does not cover sufficient distance laterally to forgive a bad guess.  You will be better off to zone out the core, especially if the minutia is center weighted, as I believe it is.  By their nature, whorls will be more susceptible to this error than loops.
