EVIDENCE TECHNICIAN
El Cajon Police Department
There is currently one position available in the Crime Laboratory of the
El Cajon Police Department.
TYPICAL DUTIES
· Identifies, collects, evaluates and preserves physical and
photographic evidence relevant to police investigations
· Documents crime scenes using sketches, lab reports, and forensic photography
· Attends autopsies for the purpose of photographing, collecting, and
preserving evidence including latent fingerprints, trace and serological
evidence
· Performs a variety of technical work including fingerprint
recovery/identification, serial number restoration, forensic photography and
videography, collection of biological evidence, and firearm and tool mark
evidence
· Examines evidence at crime scenes in the field and in the laboratory for
latent print, trace, and biological evidence using a combination of
light/laser, chemical, and print powder techniques
· Collects and classifies fingerprints using recognized classification systems
including the computerized CAL-ID system
· Prepares evidence and court displays for court and testifies as an expert
witness
Works independently on assigned cases and shares on-call
responsibilities for crime scene investigations outside the normal working
schedule
QUALIFICATIONS GUIDELINES
· Minimum six months experience in evidence technology,
criminalistics or a closely related field.
· Completion of two years of study at an accredited college or university with
a major, or significant course work, in evidence technology, criminalistics or
a closely related field.
· Certification in Forensic Technology is desirable.
· An internship in a forensic laboratory is desirable.
· Possession of or ability to obtain, prior to employment, a valid Class C
California driver's license with a safe driving record
Applications and Supplemental Questionnaires (weight 30%) will
be screened and the most highly qualified candidates will be invited to a
Qualifications Appraisal Interview (weight 70%) to be held on August 23, 2010.
Successful candidates will be placed on the eligible list for employment
consideration for at least six months.
Candidates selected for the position will be required to pass a thorough
background investigation, polygraph and medical examination that includes a drug
screen.

Forensic Supervisor
City of Torrance
Salary: $37.44 - $45.51/hr
You can be a part of the largest operational change in the history of the
Torrance Police Department Crime Scene Investigations Unit. We are looking
for motivated professionals to shape the Unit as it transitions from all
Sworn staff to Civilian experts in Forensic Science. The Unit will be
staffed by 6 Forensic professionals and a supervisor. We have previously
staffed the professional level positions and are now recruiting for the
Forensic Supervisor. The Forensic Supervisor will perform a variety of
administrative and supervisory support for the unit. In addition, the
supervisor assists with professional forensic duties, including processing
crime scenes and evidence as key members of the investigative team.
Requirements: Equivalent to graduation from an accredited college with a
Bachelor’s degree in Criminalistics, Police Science, or a relate field
and; three years paid experience as a Forensics Identification Specialist
or the equivalent at an accredited forensics laboratory or law enforcement
agency with participation in site investigations and laboratory analysis,
including two years working in a lead or supervisory capacity. Experience
may be substituted for the required education on a year for year basis to
a maximum four (4) years experience. Must possess a valid California
Driver’s License. This position is subject to call back for off shift
incidents.
