Working Conditions: Work is performed in a variety of locations to include on-site work at crime scenes, hospitals, and in the Police Department. Work is performed in indoor and outdoor environments. When work is performed outdoors, there is full exposure to the elements. The incumbent may be exposed to related health hazards to include blood and other bodily fluids/products, infectious diseases, human borne parasites, air, water, and blood borne pathogens, and may have contact with complete and/or partial human corpses in various stages of decomposition. Other health hazards may include odors, toxic chemicals, and hazardous substances. Occasionally, work is performed within confined areas or at high altitudes, including photography from helicopters. Physical demands include frequent standing, walking, bending, reaching, lifting, crawling, climbing ladders and inclines, repelling down ravines, and moving objects weighing up to 50 pounds. SFA candidates must be well-acquainted with internationally accepted forensic laboratory accreditation requirements and will ideally have management experience in an ASCLD/LAB and/or ISO 9000 accredited institution. recommendations on hiring decisions and disciplinary actions.

QUALIFICATIONS: Four-year college degree is required in Natural or

Administration, Communications or related field. One (1) year supervisory
experience may be substituted for each year of required education in a medium to
large identification section, to a maximum of four (4) years. Minimum of five
(5) years work experience in the highly technical and specialized field of

The Position
The City of San Leandro is seeking an experienced individual to perform a

QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor’s degree with science courses is required. Minimum of four years direct experience in a comparable law enforcement agency as a qualified fingerprint examiner. THE POSITION

A Police Field Support Technician Trainee learns to perform a wide variety of field law enforcement work, including:

THE SELECTION PROCESS...

QUALIFICATIONS: Four-year college degree is required in Natural or Applied Science (Criminology, Chemistry, Biology), Public or Business Administration, Communications or related field. One (1) year supervisory experience may be substituted for each year of required education in a medium to large identification section, to a maximum of four (4) years. Minimum of five (5) years work experience in the highly technical and specialized field of Latent Fingerprints, Crime Scene Processing and Forensic Photography; three (3) years of supervisory experience in a mid- to large identification section; and basic and advanced fingerprint training given by the FBI. Forensic Specialist I/II

Responsibilities: The San Mateo County Sheriff's Office
Forensic Laboratory, located in San Mateo, California, seeks a Forensic
Specialist to provide general and technical fingerprint analysis of physical
evidence using modern technology as well as conventional methods. In addition,
the Forensic Specialist will provide crime scene processing of certain types of
crimes, conduct suspect fingerprint comparisons and identifications, operate and
conduct latent searches through CAL-ID Automated Fingerprint Identification
System (AFIS) as well as testify in court as an expert witness.
Qualifications: Forensic Specialist I – 30 semester
units from an accredited college or university in police science, scientific
crime detection, evidence technology and photography or related field.
Forensic Specialist II – Two years of experience in fingerprint
identification and crime scene investigation and must have qualified in court as
a fingerprint expert.
Applicants must possess a valid driver license, successfully complete a background investigation and medical examination prior to appointment and participate in the Laboratory’s on-call, crime scene rotation schedule.

Forensic Laboratory Director. This individual will be responsible for
supervising other forensic investigations, developing and implementing policies
and procedures for the laboratory, working closely with police investigators to

QUALIFICATIONS:
EDUCATION: Equivalent to an Associate Arts Degree from an accredited college with major coursework in Criminology, Criminalistics or a closely related field and/or specific Forensic Training and two years full-time experience in law enforcement identification work to include crime scene investigation and/or the examination of latent print evidence. A Bachelor's Degree, completion of FBI or DOJ Basic and Advanced Fingerprint Courses and/or Basic and Advanced Field Evidence Technician Courses and Certification as a Latent Print Examiner and Crime Scene Analyst are highly desired. A copy of an equivalent to an Associate Arts degree or Bachelor's degree must be submitted at the first step of the background investigation and prior to the release of the background investigation packet.
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:
Possession of an appropriate valid California Driver's License. Thorough knowledge of the law, policies and procedures applying to the collection and preservation of physical evidence. Thorough knowledge of the analysis and identification procedures for latent fingerprint evidence. Thorough knowledge of modern photographic techniques and equipment. Knowledge of the various classification methods of fingerprints. Knowledge of laboratory analysis techniques. Skill in the recognition, collection, preservation, transportation and analysis of physical evidence without contamination.

SELECTION PROCEDURE FOR LATERAL CANDIDATES:
The selection procedure will consist of two (2) parts:
Part I: Candidates will be invited to an oral appraisal interview to evaluate education, training, experience, and job related qualifications for the position. MINIMUM QUALIFYING SCORE 70% - WEIGHTED 100%. Candidates will also participate in a non-scored latent print examination practical evaluation.
Part II: Candidates successful through Part I of the examination process will be placed on an eligibility list. Under general supervision, performs technical police photographic and
identification work at crime scenes and other locations. Collects,
records,
preserves, and identifies physical evidence for laboratory analysis and
comparison, and performs skilled crime scene photography. Requires work on
weekends, evenings and holidays. All candidates applying for this position
will be required to complete a full background check conducted by the police
department prior to appointment to the position.
A combination of experience and education or training equivalent to two
years of experience or technical education in taking, developing and
enlarging photographs, OR two years of experience or technical training in
fingerprint classification and identification. Visual acuity and normal
color vision are required to perform crime scene and lab work. Possession
of a valid Class "C" California driver's license and an acceptable
driver's
record are required.
